What Does the Average American Voter Know about the Job of the Presidency?
An average, unknown American dares to run for presidency without the backings of a political party and without the mechanism of a campaign staff. Meet Joe “Average Joe” Schriner, a former addiction counselor, author and writer who lives a nomadic life in his motor home with his wife and six kids. He has been touring the American continent for the past 15 years to research for the best solutions to the problems faced by the country. And as he campaigns across the United States, he proudly banners his slogan The Common Joe for the Common Good and Common Man, Common Sense, Uncommon Solutions. Schriner is never likely to step inside the White House as the nation’s Chief Executive, but when asked what he knows about the presidency, he has a lot of things to say about the post. In his travels, he says he has seen firsthand what issues the country has got. Perhaps Mr. Schriner is not the average Joe, but what exactly does the common American know about the Presidency? Are we all aware that the Constitution assigns the president two roles: chief executive of the federal government and Commander in Chief of the armed forces? As Commander in Chief, the president commands the armed forces and has the power to send troops into war. He is also the only one can authorize the use nuclear weapons. As chief executive, he proposes and enforces laws, develops federal policies, and overall protect and defend the American law. He also meets with leaders of other countries and makes treaties with them. He is even tasked to prepare the national budget. He reports to Congress once annually. So you thought being President its just fun, living in the White House and flying in Air Force One? The president also appoints cabinet members, judges, ambassadors and other federal officials. He also approves bills or vetoes acts of Congress. The head of the nation also has the rule to grant pardon to criminals.
