Lloydspharmacy Launches Tool to Spread Health Awareness

Pharmacy chain Lloydspharmacy has introduced the Chances Are… Calculator, which is an innovative web tool designed to help employees in Britain assess the health risks that they face.

The tool helps employees in estimating the number of their co-workers who might be depressed or addicted to alcoholic, or facing any other ailment. It will also create awareness about what lifestyle changes can help in dealing with the major health risks that people face.

According to Andy Murdock, Governance and Pharmacy Relations Director of Lloydspharmacy, national statistics are not that effective in creating mass awareness and raising concern about health and fitness.

Murdock explained his point by citing an example. He said that a health report stating that 15% of the population in Britain will become diabetic in the near future may not raise much concern. However, if a report states that out of 50 workers in a company, 8 are at risk of developing diabetes and 10 will start developing symptoms of erectile dysfunction by the time they reach 40, then people will naturally be concerned and will take positive steps towards improving their health.

The calculator is an innovative online tool that is expected to be widely used by companies across Britain. It uses inputs like the type of office, age profile of employees, the gender ratio of the company, and the database of national health statistics.

NEBOSH Courses can be of benefit to organisations in providing the knowledge in training staff to be aware of the proper health and safety procedures by identifying and improving upon awareness and attitude, and communication about safety to improve the health and safety culture within an organisation.
